Harajuku Girls
This week we're experiencing Tokyo, Japan.
In spite of the recent disaster in Japan and its continued chaos and panic, this week is all about Japanese fashion. Here's my attempt to put a positive light on Japan despite all the turmoil.
I want to focus on Harajuku fashion. I think the most popular allusion to Harajuku was brought about by Gwen Stefani when she came out with her first solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby.
Harajuku is a style of Japanese fashion that gives people all the expressive power they could possibly want. It normally reflects elements of Lolita (Japanese schoolgirl) and gothic wear.
Here are my Tokyo inspired looks.
I chose this dress because of its bold color. I paired it with a fringed clutch and a black chained choker. It's sexy and silky with a touch of gothic without being too over the top.
This outfit reminds me of Brittany Murphy in The Ramen Girl. It's one of my favorite movies about an American girl who moves to Tokyo with her boyfriend and then gets stranded there when he leaves her. It's a great movie about not judging people and really finding who you really are.
As simple as this blue and pink dress is, I feel that the mix of stripes and polka dots gives it a flare of funk. To Harajuku it up, throw on a pair of knee high socks and sneakers. This dress reminds me of the preppy Harajuku style that Gwen Stefani and her Harajuku girls were seen sporting on a number of occassions.

I love the Harajuku style. I look forward to going to Tokyo and shopping with the locals in the Harajuku fashion district. I've got my outfits planned for Tokyo week and I am definitely going to grab some sushi and sit down to The Ramen Girl.
